Latisse eyelash growing medicine– really?!

eyelashes-long

Have you seen the new TV ad for Latisse, a magical eyelash growing serum that promises to help women (or men, I suppose) regrow missing lashes and/or lengthen and thicken their existing lashes? It’s downright terrifying.

Brooke Shields stars in the commercial, which makes me wonder why she’s been receiving so much exposure lately. I don’t know exactly who’s behind her return to celebrity status, but I have some questions for them.

Anyway, Brooke’s involvement is irrelevant, because the product itself is what’s disturbing. The ad promises that Latisse will give you amazing huge eyelashes, but also warns that side effects include skin discoloration on your eyelid which MIGHT go away over time. And that’s not all. They also mention (I’m not kidding) that your eyes might permanently turn brown. Yes, your very irises. Brown. Forever. What??

This sounds like such a bad idea. And they’re marketing it like a beauty product, even though it’s a prescription drug. This is far worse than when they marketed medicine for Restless Leg Syndrome to the public in a deceptive way that made it seem like it was for anyone who was remotely fidgety. This is something normal everyday women who wear mascara or false lashes for an extra boost will think they need, and then we’ll find out that it actually blinds people and Latisse is going to have one major class action lawsuit on their hands. Or not, I just like to think about worst case scenarios. Like how I firmly believe that sunless tanner is going to turn out to cause skin cancer, and deoderant breast cancer, and birth control pills everything cancer. Either way, there’s no way in hell I’m putting this crazy crap on my eyes.

I’ll save this as inspiration and send visitors from my blog. I’ve just put up some ideas too, so I will include a link to this post (if OK) at the bottom?

I hope that users have some restitution for the horrible side effects Latisse is causing so many. Someone needs to step in and stop this madness. This is a disgusting product. The side effects are unfair to those who used it as directed. The bulky pathetic brush they give you in the Latisse kit is ridiculous. I hate this company for upsetting so many women.

My neighbour, who is in her early eighties uses a glaucoma medication. The first time we went out for lunch, even with her glasses on, I asked if she had mascara on. She has the darkest, fullest, pretty lashes! She has blue eyes and so far I don’t see any browm pigmentation to her eyes. Who cares if the line closest to you lashes turns brown. Don’t we put eyeliner on there anyway?
It sounds to me like “a little brown pigmentation of the iris is highly unlickly, and even so, just a few flecks! Too me, as small price to pay!

    • laura says:

      Hi Marnie,
You may be right, and I’ve heard of doctors recommending Latisse without reservation, but to me, a beauty treatment shouldn’t have medical side effects, especially when false lashes are just as stunning and easy to use.

  19. ellen forset says:

Why would I need a prescription for a cosmetic? It just means that there are side effects. The thought of losing my sight turned me off. My salon recommended Revitalash. After a couple of months, I grew longer and fuller lashes. You can also buy Revitalash on their website. Their mascara is superb! Goes on smooth and no smudge!

  20. Dakota L. says:

I, too, have heard some not-so-good things about Latisse, including its expense!!! Where can I get Revitalash? I heard they also make an amazing mascara. Do they have a website?

    • laura says:

I don’t know anything about Revitalash, but I do know it’s expensive (somewhere along the lines of $150). I say if you want thicker lashes than mascara gives you, just wear fake lashes…they look fantastic, and if you don’t get huge costumey ones, they don’t look fake or obvious.

  21. Angelica says:

I have heard so many bad things about this product in the makeup world that i have been completely turned off. There are some terrible side effects and it is expensive and you need a prescription… Which seems like a hassle to me. I use Revitalash and it has turned my lashes into a goreous fan without all the scary side effects!
